Performance and miles per gallon are rarely mentioned positively together in the same sentence. During the American muscle car era, depleting oil sources and $4.00 per-gallon gasoline prices were never on the minds of the automakers. Therefore the biggest, most powerful engines possible were stuffed into the heaviest body and frame structures ever seen on the road. Today is a much different story. Unstable oil prices and economic turmoil are a burden on the auto industry. With hybrid and electric powered vehicles on the distant horizon, many automakers are looking to their compact four-cylinder models to keep business afloat. Some of these compact cars are not only extremely fuel efficient, a few are downright sporty and actually fun to drive. These light chassis platforms may soon be the only options for car-driving enthusiasts to afford to own. Here is a short list of the fun and versatile cars coming out for the 2009 model year. 2009 Toyota Matrix The newest rendition of the Matrix model from Toyota is the fastest and sportiest yet. With multiple engine, transmission and drivetrain choices, the Matrix buyer is given the ability to decide which combination is best suited for him/her in everyday driving. The base model Matrix comes with a 1.8 liter engine with 132 horsepower and either a four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmission. The base model comes in a front-wheel drive trim and gets and astounding 32 miles-per-gallon on the highway. S and XRS model variants of the Matrix both come with the bigger 2.4 liter engine with 160 horsepower. This engine also has Toyota's variable-valve-timing system to achieve fuel economy at lower revs but still provide a burst of power in the higher rev-range. The S trim comes standard with the all-wheel-drive system and the four-speed automatic tranny, while the XRS is fitted with the five-speed manual gear box and the front-wheel-drive system. The choices are complicated but give the consumer complete control on what they want to drive. This sport-hatchback offers a more aggressive model to the Toyota lineup, with great fuel economy and everyday utility. The suspension has been redesigned from the Corolla model to offer better handling and less body roll. Prices from the Matrix start at $17,000 for the base model and can climb to $22,000 for a loaded S trim all-wheel-drive variant. 2009 Honda Fit The Fit is also redesigned for 2009. Honda has upgraded the new Fit with much more aggressive styling, a newer-more powerful engine, bigger-more efficient brakes and a more refined and roomier interior. The Sport version also offers suspension upgrades and even more styling cues to the already sporty base model. The new Fit comes with a retuned 1.5 liter i-VTEC motor with 117 horsepower. It's up eight horses from last year's model but still gets 35 miles-per-gallon on the highway. Like the Matrix, the Fit's engine features variable-valve-timing technology (like most Hondas) that allows the driver to have excellent fuel economy at low revs and better performance at higher engine speeds. The body and frame of the Fit have also been redesigned to offer a more rigid and stiffened suspension ride quality when you are cornering through the twistys. For the 2009 model, two transmissions are offered: a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The paddle shifters are Formula One inspired and offer the driver instantaneous up and down shifts at their fingertips. The base model Fit starts at $14,500 while the sport model with the optional navigation system comes is priced around $19,000. That makes the Fit affordable in any model or variation and the bargain of the year when you combine its performance and styling with its fuel efficient nature. 2009 Mini Cooper The 2009 Cooper is relatively the same-looking as the first generation that arrived in the U.S. in 2006. Besides a few design changes to the front end (headlights, hood-scoop) and a new wheel design, the first and second generation Coopers are identical. That however, is where the similarities end. The most distinct change to the Mini is all-new turbocharged power plant under the hood of the S trimmed model. The 1.7 liter four-banger is no fitted with BMW's twin-scroll turbocharger to deliver neck-snapping torque at every rpm. The old Mini had a supercharged 1.6 liter engine that lacked the top end horsepower of the new version. Power is up to 172 horses. By the way, not only in the new Cooper S the fastest on this list, but on the highway it gets the best gas mileage. It's a whopping 37 miles per gallon on the highway. The new Mini comes in two trims, base and S models. Each comes with a close-ratio six-speed manual gear box, but a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters is optional. The cheaper base model gets a 1.6 liter motor with 120 horsepower instead of the turbocharged mill. Both models get the famous Cooper go-kart style suspension, but the S model comes standard with upgraded springs, stiffer shocks, bigger vented disc brakes and a new traction control system; to give it even better handling characteristics. Pricing for the base model Cooper starts at $19,200, while the S model is $22,600, making this the most expensive compact on this list if you opt for the fully-loaded S model. It's well worth the price though, for all of the performance and handling upgrades that Mini is offering with their 2009 model. The Cooper's excellent fuel economy alone will make the new version a hot seller as gas prices continue to climb.

People already have a number of variables in mind as they make their way to the dealer, make, model, style, color etc., and now they have to also consider what they exactly want from their hybrid car. Now, they face this fact: They have to choose between several different types of hybrid cars. Of course a person is expected to choose the hybrid car that most meets his requirements. We therefore need to review the different types of hybrid cars available. First type: The full hybrid Theoretically this is the best of the bunch of hybrid types. This type of hybrid car can provide motive power to drive the car forward once the wheels have started turning. A full hybrid provides this power output without using any gasoline assisted power whatsoever through this phase. Thus the conventional gasoline driven part of the unit is used merely to get movement underway. Second type: The parallel hybrid car The parallel hybrid is fitted with both a conventional gasoline engine and an electric motor. Third type: The series hybrid car The series hybrid has a gasoline driven engine that in turn drives a generator. The output from the generator is used in one of two ways. It either provides a power supply directly to the motor or as a charging facility for the batteries. These batteries then provide power to the electric motor that propels the transmission. Thus in the series hybrid car, the gasoline fuelled conventional engine is never directly used to provide motive power to propel the vehicle forward. The current marketplace for hybrid cars only offers parallel hybrid models. Some current concept cars should fall into the series hybrid category, but for some reason auto manufacturers appear reluctant to acknowledge the fact. It would take a braver person than me to claim Oil Company influence here, so I will not go there. Suffice to say, the public is left to guess the exact types of hybrid car being offered in the future. Yet another type?: The plug-in hybrid car Now here's a thing. Just as the average automotive consumer was understanding the difference between the electric car that you plugged in and the hybrid car that you did not, along comes the plug-in hybrid car! Your guess is as good as mine as to whether this is a serious development or just a throw away line by some smart marketing executive. In looking at the ranges currently available and what manufacturers are involved with which type of hybrid car, When thinking about what manufacturers make each type of hybrid car, fuelled hybrids would be represented by the Lexus, Toyota and Ford. Whilst Honda and Saturn hybrid cars however cannot be called full hybrids despite the advertising claims that you may come across. As always, auto manufacturers have provided these different types of hybrid cars to give people more options and more ideas. Within these variations should be something to satisfy everyone that is interested in driving a hybrid car. Everyone should of course choose their target purchase of a hybrid car to align with their personal taste, budget and driving needs. It will either continuously recharge the vehicle battery or more directly, will give power to an electric motor which is then used to drive the vehicle. Since this fuel-economizing vehicle generates its own electricity, it contrasts markedly with a vehicle runs strictly static internal batteries. An obvious advantage here is that there is no waiting while your car charges up outside in the garage before you go to work. All that is required is to get in to the vehicle, turn on the ignition and drive. Electrical vehicles have indeed been around for sometime have enjoyed varying degrees of success. The unveiling of the hybrid car however, has far outstripped the impact of those earlier achievements. Owing to the hybrid cars innovative use of technology to both power itself and to offer travellers a way to save money on fuel, it is often called the car of the future. Well that's what some car manufacturers would have you believe, and no doubt many auto owners would agree with them. Clearly seen as the next generation of motor vehicles, customer purchases of hybrid cars continue to rise year on year. Back during the 1980s when Mercedes introduced its first "baby" Mercedes, the car was received with mixed reviews. Motorists loved the car, now a "C" series model, as it made a Mercedes automobile affordable for the middle class. On the other hand, critics worried that the esteemed Mercedes-Benz name would suffer as a car touching the price level of many ordinary American models would soon become part of the line up. Today, even smaller Mercedes are planned for the US market. Will this be a huge mistake for the German automaker or is Mercedes incorporating smart thinking?
To the surprise of many Americans, the Mercedes brand isn't as pompous or pretentious in Europe as it is in the U.S. Crafty Mercedes-Benz marketing over the years has presented an image of Mercedes as being an ultra-luxury automobile line, a truly superb benchmark from which all other cars are measured. In some respects this image is true, but in reality Mercedes goes well beyond such a narrow definition.
In the European market, Mercedes is known for producing these same high quality luxury cars, but also for producing vehicles that are much more attainable for the masses. Even right now Mercedes sells four models in Europe that are uncharacteristically Mercedes type vehicles, at least for the American market:
Viano - A minivan of sorts, the vehicle can hold as many as eight people and is powered by either a pair of inline four cylinder engines or a 3.5L I6.
Vaneo - A compact van with seating for as many as seven adults. The Vaneo features a sloping roof that quickly drops off to a rear hatch. Powered by 1.6L or 1.9L I4 gasoline engines or a 1.7L diesel.
B Series - Mercedes' answer to the Volkswagen Golf is its own "B" Series of automobiles. This five door hatchback, which also looks a lot like a Toyota Matrix, comes with six engine choices: four gas engines starting with a 1.5L I4 up to a 2.0L turbocharged four, and two diesels.
A Series - Even smaller than the "B" Series is the "A" Series, three or five door hatchback models about the size of a Toyota Echo. That's right, a teeny tiny Mercedes! The same six engines offered with the "B" Series are offered in the "A" Series plus one additional diesel for a total of seven engine choices!
Prices for the "A" Series starts around $23,000 when current British to American currency exchange figures are factored in to nearly $29,500 for the "B" Series. The Vaneo and Viano would sell at around $25,550 and $39,800 respectively if today's European prices were carried over to the U.S.
So, what does Mercedes have in mind? They are hoping to introduce the "B" Series to the U.S. market by 2007. Is this a wise decision? In my opinion it has worked well in Europe, however it would be better for Mercedes to create a new make of cars to include the "B" Series. Much like Toyota has spun off both Lexus and Scion, Mercedes would be better served by creating a separate "down market" brand in order to uphold the Mercedes name. No, there isn't anything shameful about any of these small vehicles - in fact, they are a wise idea - however, decades of marketing in the U.S. can certainly be undone overnight by the introduction of any vehicle smaller than the "C" Series to the Mercedes line up. No car as small as the "B" Series would wear a Lexus nameplate, so why should a car of this type wear the Mercedes moniker?

The German automaker Mercedes Benz introduces the newest C-Class model with design cues and performance features from the company's AMG sports tuner.
The new Mercedes Benz C 63 AMG will roll out in the market with two variants: sedan and estate models. Both variants are equipped with a monstrous AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine capable of pumping out 336 kW / 457 hp and 600 Nm amount of peak torque. This naturally aspirated engine allows the Mercedes Benz C 63 AMG to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in a mere 4.5 seconds and can reach an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. The car is equipped with a continuous dual-flow AMG sports exhaust system with two chromed twin oval tailpipes with large cross-sections to reduce back pressure, according to Mercedes Benz. Along with high performance catalytic converter, the C 63 AMG complies with almost all of the emissions standards including EU 4 and LEV-II. According to the NEDC, the new Mercedes Benz C 63 AMG achieves a fuel consumption of only 13.4 l/100 km and emits a mere amount of CO2 of 319 g/km. The AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine is coupled with AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC transmission to complete the powertrain package.
Like all other Mercedes Benz AMG models, the C 63 AMG comes with a wide array of interior and exterior components. Outside, the C 63 AMG features AMG bonnet with power domes, distinctive AMG radiator grille, flared front wings, AMG rear apron with a black diffusor insert, AMG sports exhaust system with two chromed twin tailpipes, electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, AMG spoiler lip, EASY PACK tailgate and load-securing kit, headlamp Assist, and bi-xenon headlamps with cornering light function and headlamp cleaning. The C 63 AMG also comes with various wheel and tire combinations. These include the new 18-inch AMG light-alloy wheels in a five-spoke design wrappe3d with tyres in size 235/40 R 18 (front) and 255/35 R 18 (rear). A 19-inch AMG titanium grey light-alloy wheels in a multi-spoke design is also available as an optional feature. These high-gloss finish wheels are covered with 235/35 tyres (front) and 255/30 R 19 tyres at the rear.
On the inside, the Mercedes Benz C 63 AMG offers the distinctive AMG sports seats with integrated head restraints, AMG performance steering wheel in a three-spoke design with a 365-mm rim diameter, flattened lower section, tubular-design AMG instrument cluster with AMG main menu, aluminium trim panels on dome, doors and centre console, armrest with roller-top compartment, AMG lettering and brushed stainless steel sports pedals, 1/3:2/3 split-fold rear seat backrest (saloon), /3:2/3 split-fold rear seat backrest (estate), AMG carbon-fibre trim, AMG velour floor mats, and Nappa leather upholstery, just to name the few. Safety feats include ISOFIX child seat attachment points in the rear, THERMATIC two-zone automatic climate control, knee bag on the driver's side, airbags for the driver and front passenger, and Mercedes Benz's PRE-SAFE system available as an optional feature.
Technical features include improved multi-link independent rear suspension with increased track width, fade-resistant AMG high-performance brake system, and new 3-stage ESP with Sport function.
The company said the Mercedes Benz C 63 AMG will roll out in selected markets in Europe early in 2008 carrying a base manufacturer's suggested retail price of 67,235 Euros ($95,782) for the sedan variant, and 69,853 Euros ($99,512 USD) for the estate. Probably this model will also roll out in the US market. Mercedes Benz lovers should watch out for this model instead of upgrading their auto parts (like Saab OEM parts).

Mercedes-Benz is an automotive group that has come a long way every since their first inventions, in fact, the world's first true automobile was released under the Benz Motorwagen patent in 1886. These original car models looked just like carriages but without horses.
This company wasn't known by the name it is recognized for today, it was originally two different companies: "DMG" and "Benz & Cie." who started to cooperate with each other after World War I because of mutual interests, these two automotive groups finally merged in 1926 under an agreement which required the two companies to work together until the year 2000.
Due to their engine innovations this company also produced engines for airplanes, boats and even Zeppelins. Car models designed from 1900-1957 had a very particular style which identified them, they were portrayed in "Al Capone or mafia" type of movies, they had an extended car hood and very prominent head lights. These particular models are very rare and today they are only found in private collections or museums. Some of the models are:
